Biwa concert at Musée Cernuschi in Paris

On the 27 October 2008, Junko Ueda performs biwa traditional music at Musée Cernuschi (7 Ave. Vélasquez 75008) in Paris. This concert is held for the celebration of the new publication about Utamaro, 'l'Almanach des maisons vertes' by Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art .

Troubadours Caravane Project

Troubadours Caravane
This summer Junko Ueda joins a special project combining occidental and oriental troubadour art-styles in both music and poetry: Troubadours Caravane. The ensemble is created around the Troubadours Art Ensemble directed by Gérard Zuchetto. The project is organised by Trob'Art Productions. The Troubadours Caravane Ensemble consists of: Gérard Zuchetto (voice; direction); Sandra Hurtado-Rós (voice); Junko Ueda (voice/satsuma-biwa); Fawzy Al-Aiedy (voice/ud); Denise Dowling (recorders); Wil Offermans (flutes); Veronique Condesse (harp); Patrice Villaumé (hurdy gurdy); Frédéric Bousquet (crystal-Baschet); Jean Jacques Kotto-Bekima (stick-guitar); Thierry Gomar (percussion); and Michel Raji (dance). In the concert, Ueda will perform some pieces of the Heike Monogatari (traditional Japanese story-telling) as well as her new creations with the Troubadour Caravan musicians. The concerts will take place in the south of France. The schedule for 2008 is:

Shomyo Workshop in Madrid

Biwa performance at Madrid San Isidro Festival

On 17 May 2008, Junko Ueda performs at the traditional Madrid City Festival of San Isidoro. The music event in the festival is called Mundo de Musica and presenting music from different countries from the world. From Japan, beside Ueda's traditional biwa music, koto music (by Junko Ihara) and shakuhachi music (by Tekizan Nishimura) are presented. The concert is held at the open air in Casa de Campo, Madrid.

Biwa/voice performance with dancer Kenzo Kusuda

On 8 and 9 May 2008, Junko Ueda performs biwa/voice with Japanese modern dancer Kenzo Kusuda at Korzo De Binckhorst, Den Haag, Holland. The performance will be a creation based on their improvisation. The performance starts at 20:00.

Biwa concert in Guimet Museum, Paris

On 15 February 2008, Junko Ueda gives satsuma-biwa solo concert at Auditorium du Musée national des arts asiatiques- Guimet, Paris, France. The program includes:
  1. Dan-no-Ura, traditional story-telling / Heike-Monogatari

  3. Gion-Shôja, traditional story-telling / Heike-Monogatari
  4. Voyage composed by Tôru Takemitsu.

Performing Ji#6 by Qu Xiaosong

On 11 February 2008 (Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Holland) and 13 February 2008 (Musis Sacrum in Arnhem, Holland), Junko Ueda participates in a concert series 'Chinese Stilte' organised by Amsterdam based contemporary music ensemble Nieuw Ensemble. In the concert, Ueda will perform satsuma-biwa and shomyo chanting as the soloist with the piece by Chinese composer Qu Xiaosong, titled Ji #6 (biwa/voice and six instruments).
