The project ‘Xenakis Birthday Party’ in Vienna

Junko Ueda participates with her traditional biwa music in the project ‘Xenakis Birthday Party’ at the Belvedere 21 (contemporary art museum) in Vienna on 18 June 2022 as part of the Wiener Festwochen. The project is to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the composer Iannis Xenakis. Reinhold Friedl (musician, composer and director of the ensemble Zeitkratzer) is curating a celebration on a grand scale.

‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’ film on Netflix

Duo Ueda Offermans concert at Rietberg Museum, Zurich, Swiss

On the 3 November 2021, Duo Ueda Offermans performs at Rietberg Museum in Zurich on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Japanese medieval narrations depicted in the arts’, with subtitling by musicologist Mr. Heinz-Dieter Reese. The program included:
- Atsumori, Japanese traditional biwa music, solo
- Dan-no-Ura, Japanese traditional biwa music, arranged for biwa, voice and flute
- Yoshitsune, Japanese traditional biwa music, solo
- Murasaki-no-Ue, from Tale of Genji, composed by Junko Ueda for biwa, voice and flute.

Shomyo Chant New Youtube Video

In April 2020, during the lockdown caused by the corona virus, Junko Ueda recorded a shomyo piece called ‘Kujô-Shakujô’. Ancient tradition says that Kujô-Shakujô Sutra has miraculous powers. We pray evil spirits will be driven away, the earth will be purified and the world will be the place of peace for all living things.
